Method
Directions
- 1
Make Basil Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1 cup fresh basil leaves. Bring to a gentle simmer until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, steep 5–10 minutes, then strain. Cool completely to yield about 1/2 cup Basil Simple Syrup.
- 2
In a shaker, muddle 0.75 cup sliced cucumber, 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger, and 1 tablespoon minced lemongrass to release aromatics.
- 3
Add 2 tablespoons lime juice and 0.25 cup Basil Simple Syrup to the shaker.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
- 5
Strain the mixture into a chilled glass. Top with 60 ml sparkling wine. If sparkling wine is unavailable, substitute with an equal amount of non-alcoholic sparkling water.
- 6
Garnish with a cucumber wheel, a lime wheel, and a fresh basil leaf. Serve immediately.
