Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, and butter until warm (about 110°F). Add to the dry ingredients along with the egg and vanilla. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).

  3. 3

    Prepare the Filling

In a bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Melt the butter for the filling and let it cool slightly.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick). Brush with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the top.

  5. 5

    Shape the Rolls

Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal slices and place in a greased baking dish.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Cover the rolls and let them rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Bake the Rolls

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Prepare the Icing

In a bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Mix until combined and creamy.

  9. 9

    Icing the Rolls

Once the rolls are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the icing over the top and serve warm.
