Pork Marinade

Method

Marinating the Pork

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Whisk together until the sugar is dissolved.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Pork

Place the pork shoulder in a large zip-top bag or a bowl. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring it is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

Roasting the Pork

  1. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

  2. 4

    Prepare for Roasting

Remove the pork from the marinade and place it in a roasting pan. Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of the pan to keep the meat moist during cooking.

  3. 5

    Roast the Pork

Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 3 hours, or until the pork is tender and can be easily shredded with a fork.

  4. 6

    Finish the Pork

Remove the foil and increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Roast for an additional 30 minutes, or until the top is caramelized and crispy.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

Once the pork is done, let it rest for about 15 minutes. Slice the pork thinly and arrange it on a serving platter. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
