Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Flavorings

Add the eggs one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.

  5. 5

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour Batter into Pan

Pour the cake batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and spread it evenly.

  7. 7

    Bake the Cake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare Cream Cheese Frosting

In a bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.

  2. 9

    Cool the Cake

Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cake is cool, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top using a spatula.
