Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Seafood

Rinse the mussels and clams under cold water to remove any sand or debris. Discard any that are open and do not close when tapped. Cut the fish into bite-sized pieces and set aside. Peel and devein the prawns, and slice the calamari into rings.

  2. 2

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion, 3 minced garlic cloves, and 1 diced bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onion is translucent.

  3. 3

    Add Tomatoes and Broth

Add 1 can (14.5 ounces) of diced tomatoes (with juices) and 4 cups of fish or vegetable broth to the pot. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Cook the Seafood

Once the broth is simmering, add the mussels and clams to the pot. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes until they start to open.

  5. 5

    Add Remaining Seafood

Add the fish, prawns, and calamari to the pot. Stir gently and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the fish is cooked through and the prawns are pink and opaque.

  6. 6

    Season and Serve

Season the stew with salt, pepper, and 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (to taste). Serve hot with crusty bread for dipping.
