Smoothie Base

Method

Preparation

1

Prep fruit

If using fresh strawberries, hull and halve them. Peel the banana and break into 1-inch chunks. Measure out frozen blueberries; if they are large, you can pulse them briefly in the blender to break them up during blending.

2

Measure powders and liquids

Scoop the plant-based protein powder and spirulina. Chill coconut water and almond milk, and have ice ready if using.

Blending

3

Add the liquids to the blender first: pour in coconut water and almond milk. Adding liquids first helps the blades engage and prevents dry clumping of powders.

4

Add the powders (protein and spirulina) next, then add the banana chunks, strawberries, and frozen blueberries. Top with ice if using.

5

Secure the lid and blend on low for 10–15 seconds to combine, then increase to high and blend 30–45 seconds until completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula if necessary, then blend another 10–15 seconds.

6

Check the texture and taste. If the smoothie is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons coconut water and blend briefly. If it's too thin, add a few more ice cubes or 1/4 cup frozen fruit and blend again. If additional sweetness is desired, add the maple syrup or agave and pulse once or twice to incorporate.

Serve & Garnish

7

Pour the smoothie into two 12-oz glasses or one larger 24-oz glass.

8

Garnish each serving with fresh blueberries and a sprinkle of toasted shredded coconut, if desired. Serve immediately with a straw.
