Method
Prepare Cold Brew Base
Measure cold brew
Measure 1 cup of cold brew coffee and 1 cup of chilled unsweetened almond milk. Having both liquids cold keeps the drink refreshing and prevents additional dilution from melting ice.
If your cold brew is concentrated, adjust by using 3/4 cup cold brew concentrate + 1 1/4 cup water or almond milk total to reach a balanced strength. In this recipe we assume ready-to-drink cold brew.
Blend Mocha Smoothie
Add solids to blender
Place the banana (peeled), 2 tbsp raw cacao powder, 1 tbsp almond butter, and 1 scoop grass-fed whey protein into the blender.
Add liquids and sweeteners
Pour in the 1 cup cold brew and 1 cup almond milk. Add 1 tsp liquid sweetener of choice and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Add the optional 1/4 tsp sea salt if using — it enhances chocolate and coffee flavors.
Add ice
Add 1 cup of ice cubes to the blender to chill and thicken the drink. If you prefer a thinner drink, start with 1/2 cup ice and adjust after blending.
Blend until smooth
Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and slightly frothy. Scrape down the sides once and blend an additional 5–10 seconds if needed to fully incorporate the cacao and almond butter.
Taste and adjust
Taste the mocha cold brew. If you want it sweeter, add an additional 1/2 tsp sweetener and blend for 5 seconds. If too thick, add up to 1/4 cup additional almond milk and pulse to combine.
Serve
Pour the blended mocha cold brew into a tall glass. If desired, top with a light dusting of raw cacao or a few chocolate shavings and a thin drizzle of almond butter warmed slightly to pourable consistency.
Serve immediately with a straw. This recipe makes a creamy, chilled beverage best enjoyed fresh.
