Smoothie Base

Method

Prep

1

Measure and chill

Measure out frozen blueberries, almond milk, whey protein, almond butter, and shredded coconut. If you prefer a colder or thicker smoothie and are using fresh blueberries, have ice cubes ready.

2

If using optional Greek yogurt, let it sit at refrigerator temperature so it's not rock-hard for easier blending.

Blend

3

Combine base ingredients

Add 1.5 cups frozen blueberries, 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop grass-fed whey protein, 2 tablespoons almond butter, 2 tablespoons shredded coconut, and a pinch (1/8 tsp) sea salt into the blender pitcher.

4

Add optional items

If using, add 1/4 cup Greek yogurt for creaminess and/or 4 ice cubes if using fresh berries. Add 1 tsp maple syrup or honey to sweeten if desired.

5

Blend to desired texture

Secure the lid and blend on high for 45–90 seconds, stopping once to scrape down the sides with a spatula if necessary. If the smoothie is too thick, add up to 1/4 cup cold water or additional almond milk and blend 10–15 seconds more. If too thin, add a small handful of extra frozen blueberries or 1/2 tablespoon more almond butter and pulse until combined.

Serve & Garnish

6

Pour the smoothie into a chilled glass (about 16 oz / 475 ml).

7

Garnish with 6 fresh blueberries, a tablespoon of toasted coconut flakes, and a light 1/2 tablespoon drizzle of almond butter on top. Serve immediately.
