Desserts

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven and Pans

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is well incorporated. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

  8. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of chocolate frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  9. 9

    Garnish

Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top of the frosted cake for garnish, if desired.
