Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass
Chill a coupe or rocks glass by filling it with ice and water while you build the cocktail, or place it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes.
- 2
Add ice to a cocktail shaker (enough to fill about half to two-thirds of the shaker).
- 3
Pour into the shaker: 2 oz Don Q white rum, 1 oz guava syrup, 1 oz fresh guava puree (or strained guava nectar), 0.5 oz pineapple liqueur, 0.5 oz blue curaçao, and 0.75 oz fresh lime juice.
- 4
If you prefer the cocktail slightly sweeter, add 0.25 oz simple syrup. For a touch of aromatic depth, add 1 dash Angostura bitters (optional).
- 5
Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels well chilled and slightly frosty. Shaking integrates the fruit puree and chills the mixture.
- 6
Discard the ice/water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or over fresh ice in a rocks glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove foam or fruit solids.
- 7
If you used blue curaçao and guava, the drink will develop a tropical pink-orange hue; pour gently to preserve any gentle layering.
Garnish & Finish
- 8
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and a small pineapple wedge or leaf. Optionally place a dehydrated guava slice or a mint sprig on top for aroma.
- 9
Serve immediately. Offer a short stirring pick or straw if served on ice.
