Method
Prep
If you prefer a colder, thicker smoothie, keep the fruit frozen and add the ice cubes in the final blend. If your blender is low-powered, allow frozen fruit to sit 2–3 minutes to slightly defrost for easier blending.
Blend
Layer ingredients in blender
Add the liquids first (cold water and almond milk) to the blender pitcher. Next add the yogurt, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Add the banana pieces, frozen mixed berries, frozen mango, rolled oats, and ground flaxseed on top of the liquids. Place the ice cubes on top.
Blend to smooth
Secure the blender lid and start blending on low speed for 10–15 seconds to combine. Gradually increase to high speed and blend for 30–60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and no large fruit or ice pieces remain. If mixture is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of water or milk and blend again. If too thin, add 2–4 more ice cubes or a few frozen berries and pulse until desired thickness.
Serve
Pour the smoothie into a tall glass (about 16–20 oz). Taste and adjust sweetness with an additional 1/2 teaspoon honey or maple syrup if desired.
Garnish with a fresh mint leaf and 1–2 thin berry slices if using. Serve immediately with a straw.
