Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a generous amount of salt to the water.
- 2
Cook the Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente (usually about 8-10 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 3
Drain and Set Aside
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Preparing the Meatsauce
- 4
Sauté the Onion and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
- 5
Brown the Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 6
Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 7
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Combining and Serving
- 8
Combine Spaghetti and Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the meatsauce. Toss well to coat the spaghetti evenly with the sauce.
- 9
Serve
Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil as desired.
