Marinara Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, fill with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, including their juices. Crush the tomatoes with a wooden spoon to break them up.

  4. 7

    Season the Sauce

Stir in dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 8

    Add Fresh Basil

Just before serving, stir in the chopped fresh basil for added flavor.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 9

    Combine

Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the marinara sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly in the sauce.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
