Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into evenly sized chunks (about 1-2 inches) to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes and garlic cloves in a large pot. Fill the pot with enough water to cover the potatoes by about an inch. Add the salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook Until Tender

Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes and garlic are fork-tender.

  3. 5

    Drain the Potatoes

Carefully drain the potatoes and garlic in a colander. Allow them to sit for a minute to let out excess steam.

Mashing

  1. 6

    Mash the Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes and garlic to the pot. Add the unsalted butter, heavy cream, and horseradish (if using).

  2. 7

    Mix and Season

Using a potato masher or a hand mixer, mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Add black pepper and adjust seasoning to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Spoon the mashed potatoes into a serving dish. Optionally, drizzle with additional melted butter and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
