Ingredients for Calamari Fritti
Method
Directions for Preparing Calamari Fritti
- 1
Prepare the Squid
Begin by cleaning the squid if not already done. Cut the squid into ½ inch rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Squid
Dip each calamari ring into the wet mixture, then dredge it in the flour mixture to coat evenly.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated squid rings in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- 7
Drain the Calamari
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 8
Serve
Serve the calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if desired.
