In a medium saucepan, combine water and salt. Bring to a gentle boil.

Stir in steel-cut oats. Reduce heat to a simmer.

Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 25–30 minutes, until oats are tender and creamy.

At about 20 minutes, fold in chopped dates to sweeten and soften.

During the last 5 minutes, gently stir in blueberries so they retain their color. Continue cooking until oats reach your preferred texture.

Remove from heat. Spoon into bowls. Top each serving with sliced bananas and shaved almonds.
