Pasta Preparation
1. Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
2. Cook the Spaghetti
Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes until al dente. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
Meatball Preparation
3. Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) to prepare for baking the meatballs.
4. Mix Meatball Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine 500 grams of ground beef, 100 grams of breadcrumbs, 50 grams of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 egg, 2 teaspoons of minced garlic, 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix until well combined.
5. Form Meatballs
Shape the mixture into meatballs, about the size of a golf ball, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
6. Bake the Meatballs
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
7. Sauté Onions and Garlic
In a large saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add 3 teaspoons of minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
8. Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in 800 grams of crushed canned tomatoes, and add 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir well to combine.
9. Simmer the Sauce
Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Assembly
10. Combine Everything
Once the meatballs are baked and the sauce is simmered, add the meatballs to the sauce and let them cook together for an additional 5 minutes.
11. Serve
Serve the cooked spaghetti topped with the meatballs and marinara sauce. Garnish with additional parsley or Parmesan cheese if desired.
