Sandwich Assembly

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add the Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 6

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the marinara sauce and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes to soak up the flavors.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Slice the sub rolls in half. Place a few meatballs on each roll, spoon over some marinara sauce, and top with provolone cheese and a sprinkle of Romano cheese.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the sandwiches warm, optionally with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
