Method

Brownie Layer

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brownie Batter

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, melt the 1 cup of unsalted butter. Once melted, stir in 1.5 cups of granulated sugar and 0.5 cups of brown sugar until smooth. Add in the 3 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 0.5 cups of cocoa powder, and 0.5 tsp of salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix the Batter

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If desired, fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips for extra richness.

  4. 4

    Bake the Brownie Layer

Pour the brownie batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  1. 5

In a large mixing bowl, cream together 0.5 cups of unsalted butter, 0.75 cups of granulated sugar, and 0.75 cups of brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 large egg and 1 tsp of vanilla extract until well combined.

  2. 6

In another bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp of baking soda, and 0.25 tsp of salt.

  3. 7

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips for a delicious cookie layer.

  4. 8

Once the brownie layer is baked and slightly cooled, spread the cookie dough evenly over the brownie layer in the same baking pan.

  5. 9

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cookie layer comes out clean.

  6. 10

Allow the brookie to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
