Directions
- 1
Prepare the Whiting
Rinse the whiting fillets under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Marinate the Fish
Place the whiting fillets in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
- 3
Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Fish
Remove the whiting fillets from the buttermilk and allow any excess to drip off. Dredge each fillet in the flour and cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- 6
Fry the Fish
Carefully place the coated fillets in the hot oil, cooking in batches if necessary. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried whiting from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
