Dough

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook Meat

In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking apart the meat with a spoon.

  2. 6

    Add Vegetables

Add chopped onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then let simmer for about 10 minutes.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 9

    Prepare Deep Dish

Roll out the risen dough to fit a deep dish pie pan. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the pan.

  3. 10

    Add Filling

Layer half of the mozzarella cheese on the bottom of the crust, followed by the meat and vegetable filling. Top with remaining mozzarella and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  4. 11

    Bake

Place the deep dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

  5. 12

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool for about 10 minutes, slice, and serve hot.
