Method
Dough & Base
- 1
Preheat
Place an oven rack in the lowest third of the oven and preheat to 500°F (260°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven before preheating so it heats through.
- 2
Prepare dough
If using refrigerated or room-temperature dough, let it rest 20–30 minutes to relax. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll dough to a 12-inch (30 cm) round, leaving a slightly thicker 1/2-inch edge for the crust. Transfer to a piece of parchment or a well-floured pizza peel.
- 3
Brush crust
Lightly brush the outer 1/2-inch rim of the dough with 1 tablespoon olive oil to promote browning.
- 4
Add sauce and cheese
Spread 3/4 cup of your chosen base sauce evenly over the dough, leaving the oiled rim bare. Sprinkle 2 cups shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce.

For meats that require pre-cooking (italian sausage), ensure they are fully cooked and drained of excess fat before adding to the pizza. Sliced mushrooms and bell peppers can be used raw or quickly sautéed in 1 teaspoon olive oil for 1–2 minutes to reduce moisture—pat dry before adding.
Bake & Finish
- 7
Bake
Slide the pizza (on the parchment) onto the preheated pizza stone or onto a baking sheet and bake at 500°F (260°C) for 8–12 minutes. Bake until the crust is blistered and golden and cheese is melted and slightly browned in spots. Rotate halfway through baking for even browning.

Finish
Remove pizza from oven and let rest 2 minutes. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or to taste), and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper over the hot pizza. If desired, grate 2 tablespoons parmesan over the top. Add fresh basil leaves after baking to preserve their flavor.

Slice & Serve
Transfer pizza to a cutting board, slice into 8 slices and serve hot.
