Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Prepare glass
Fill a highball glass or Collins glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes to chill the glass and keep the cocktail cold.
Combine base ingredients
In a mixing glass or shaker (no need to shake vigorously), pour 2 oz blanco tequila and 4 oz fresh orange juice over a handful of ice. Stir gently for about 10 seconds to lightly chill and integrate ingredients.
Pour and layer grenadine
Strain or pour the tequila-orange mixture into the prepared ice-filled serving glass. Slowly and carefully pour 0.5 oz grenadine down the inside edge of the glass or over the back of a bar spoon so it sinks to the bottom and creates the sunrise gradient.
Garnish and serve
Do not stir. Garnish with an orange wheel on the rim and an optional maraschino cherry on a pick. Serve with a straw placed at an angle, allowing the drinker to gently blend the grenadine if desired.
Notes
Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing grenadine (0.25β0.75 oz). For a taller glass, scale ingredients proportionally. Use freshly squeezed orange juice for best flavor.
