Prepare glass
Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice cubes until about 3/4 full.
Measure and pour vodka
Pour 2 oz vodka over the ice.
Add orange juice
Add 4 oz freshly squeezed orange juice (or high-quality store-bought) to the glass.
Optional sweeten or brighten
If desired, add 1/2 tsp simple syrup for sweetness or 1/4 oz fresh lime or lemon juice for brightness. Stir gently to combine.
Garnish and serve
Give the cocktail a gentle stir (about 5–8 rotations) to mix. Garnish with an orange wheel or wedge on the rim and a maraschino cherry if using. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick.
