1

Prepare the glass

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice and cold water; set aside while you mix the cocktail.

2

Rinse the glass

Discard the chilling ice and water. Pour the teaspoon of absinthe into the chilled glass, swirl it around to coat the interior thoroughly, then discard the excess (or blot with a paper towel) so the anise aroma remains as a light rinse.

3

Mix the cocktail

In a mixing glass or shaker filled with ice (about 1 cup), add 2 oz blended Scotch, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz curaçao, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

4

Stir

Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until well chilled and properly diluted (the mixing glass should frost on the outside).

5

Strain and garnish

Double-strain the cocktail into the absinthe-rinsed chilled glass. Express an orange twist over the drink (pinch the peel to release oils), run it around the rim, and drop it in as garnish.

6

Serve immediately. The cocktail yields one serving. Adjust bitters or curaçao slightly to taste if you prefer it drier or sweeter.
