Pitcher Base

Method

Pitcher Base

1

Combine spirits and citrus

Chill a 60–80 oz pitcher in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. Add the gin (12 oz), dry vermouth (4 oz), elderflower liqueur (2 oz), fresh lemon juice (3 oz) and simple syrup (1.5 oz) into the chilled pitcher. Stir gently with a long spoon to integrate.

2

Adjust balance

Taste the blend; it should be bright, floral and lightly herbal. If it tastes too tart, add up to 0.5 oz more simple syrup. If too sweet, add 0.25–0.5 oz more lemon juice. Stir again after adjusting.

3

Add 4 cups of cubed ice directly to the pitcher and stir briskly for about 20–30 seconds to further chill and slightly dilute the mixture.

Sparkle & Finish

4

Top with soda and bitters

Pour in the chilled club soda or sparkling water (12 oz) gently down the side of the pitcher to preserve carbonation. Add 6 dashes of Angostura bitters across the top and give a gentle 3–4 stroke stir — do not over-stir or you will flatten the bubbles.

5

Garnish in-pitcher

Float 6 lemon wheels in the pitcher and tuck the fresh mint sprigs among the lemon wheels for aroma. Optionally slap the mint lightly between your palms before placing to release oils.

6

Serve

Fill each serving glass halfway with ice (about 0.5–1 cup per glass). For a 60–80 oz pitcher this recipe yields approximately 6 servings — pour about 6–7 oz per glass. Garnish each glass with a lemon wheel and a mint sprig. If desired, add one gentle final dash of Angostura to each glass for presentation.

7

Leftover storage: keep the pitcher refrigerated and covered. For best quality drink within 6–8 hours; beyond that carbonation and aromatics will fade.
