Base Milkshakes
Add ice cream and flavoring
Add 2 cups vanilla ice cream, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the blender. If you prefer a thicker shake, add up to 3 ice cubes.
Blend to smooth
Secure the lid and blend on medium-high for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is smooth and thick but pourable. Stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed, then pulse once more to finish.
Taste and adjust
Taste the base. If you want it sweeter, add up to 1 additional teaspoon of sugar or a tablespoon of syrup depending on the flavor. If too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons milk and blend briefly.
Chocolate Milkshake Add-ins
Add chocolate
For a chocolate milkshake, add 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup to the blender with the base ingredients before blending. Blend until fully incorporated and smooth, about 20–30 seconds.
Strawberry Milkshake Add-ins
Prepare strawberries
If using fresh strawberries, hull and quarter them. For frozen berries, allow 1–2 minutes at room temperature to loosen slightly. Add 1 cup strawberries and 1 tablespoon strawberry syrup (if using) to the blender with the base ingredients.
Blend strawberries
Blend on medium-high for 30–45 seconds until the berries are completely pureed and the shake is smooth. Stop to scrape the jar if large pieces remain, then blend again.
Add 4 roughly broken chocolate sandwich cookies to the blender with the base ingredients. Pulse 4–6 times to break the cookies into chunks while keeping some texture. For a smoother cookies-and-cream, blend 15–20 seconds longer.
Toppings and Serving
Pour the finished milkshake into a tall chilled glass. Top with whipped cream (about 1/2 cup), sprinkle chocolate shavings or sprinkles, add fresh strawberry slices for strawberry shakes, and crown with a maraschino cherry if desired. Serve immediately with a straw and long spoon.
Notes: Prepare variations by following the base milkshake steps and adding only the add-ins from the chosen flavor section. All ingredient quantities listed are per single serving; scale ingredients proportionally for more servings.
