Brewed Coffee

Method

Brewed Coffee

1

Measure and grind

Weigh 36 g (0.036 kg) of whole coffee beans for a 600 ml brew (coffee-to-water ratio ~1:17). Grind beans to the appropriate size for your method: medium-coarse for French press, medium for drip/pour-over, fine for espresso.

2

Heat water

Bring 600 ml (0.6 l) of filtered water to the proper temperature. For pour-over or drip, heat to 92–96°C (197–205°F). For French press, bring to a boil then let sit 30 seconds. For espresso use machine temperature settings.

3

Brew

Brew using your chosen method: - Pour-over: wet filter, add ground coffee, bloom with ~60 ml hot water for 30–45 seconds, then pour remaining water steadily until 600 ml reached (total brew time ~2:30–3:30). - French press: add grounds, pour all hot water, stir gently, steep 4 minutes, press slowly. - Drip machine: follow manufacturer instructions with measured grounds and water. - Espresso: dose and tamp for a concentrated shot (note: volume will be much smaller; adjust milk/water accordingly).

4

Serve brewed coffee

Once brewed, pour coffee immediately into cups or a thermal carafe to preserve flavor. If not drinking right away, keep covered and warm for up to 20–30 minutes to avoid bitterness from prolonged heat exposure.

Optional Add-ins

5

Hot coffee with milk and sweetener

If serving hot: warm 120 ml (0.12 l) milk on the stove or steam with an espresso steam wand until 60–65°C (140–149°F). Froth if desired. Add 2 tsp sweetener to the cup, pour brewed coffee, then add warmed milk to taste (typical ratio: 2 parts coffee : 1 part milk). Stir to combine.

6

Iced coffee

To make iced coffee: cool brewed coffee slightly, then pour 120 ml (0.12 l) of brewed coffee into a tall glass filled with ice cubes (about 6). Optionally add 120 ml cold water if the brew is too strong. Stir in sweetener to taste (about 2 tsp) and add milk if desired.

7

Adjust sweetness and strength

Taste and adjust: add more sweetener, milk, or water to reach preferred strength and flavor. For stronger coffee, use less dilution and/or more coffee grounds next brew; for milder, add water or milk.

Cleanup

8

Discard used grounds (compost if possible). Rinse and wash the coffee equipment (carafe, filter basket, French press plunger, grinder catch) with warm soapy water, then dry. Descale equipment periodically per manufacturer recommendations.
