Method
Marinade Preparation
- 1
Mix Marinade Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper. Whisk together until the sugar is dissolved.
- 2
Marinate the Beef
Add the thinly sliced beef sirloin to the marinade. Make sure each piece is well-coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours for better flavor.
Cooking the Beef

Prepare the Grill or Pan
Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a bit of oil to prevent sticking.
- 4
Cook the Beef
Remove the beef from the marinade (discard marinade) and grill or sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds before removing from heat.
Serving
- 5
Prepare Serving Base
While the beef is cooking, prepare rice noodles or rice according to package instructions.
- 6
Assemble the Dish
In serving bowls, place a portion of noodles or rice. Top with the grilled sesame beef, julienned cucumber, and carrots. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.
