Main Ingredients

For Frying (if deep frying)

For Steaming (if steaming)

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Fish

Rinse the whole red snapper under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Ensure the innards are removed and the fish is scaled.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Fish

In a bowl, mix salt, black pepper, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Rub this mixture all over the fish, including inside the cavity. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Deep Frying Instructions

  1. 3

    Prepare the Coating

In a shallow dish, combine all-purpose flour and cornstarch, mixing well.

  2. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  3. 5

    Fry the Fish

Dredge the marinated fish in the flour-cornstarch mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated. Carefully place the fish in the hot oil and fry for about 8-10 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Steaming Instructions

  1. 6

    Prepare the Steamer

Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a simmer. Place a steamer basket inside, ensuring it does not touch the water.

  2. 7

    Add Aromatics

Place sliced ginger and chopped green onions inside the cavity of the fish.

  3. 8

    Steam the Fish

Place the marinated fish on a plate and set it in the steamer basket. Cover and steam for about 20-25 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

  4. 9

    Finish with Sauce

Drizzle soy sauce and sesame oil over the steamed fish just before serving.
