Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, fill with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add 400 grams of spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes for al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.

Preparing Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 chopped medium onion, 1 chopped carrot, and 1 chopped stalk of celery. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Mince 2 cloves of garlic and add to the skillet. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Brown the Beef

Add 500 grams of ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.

  4. 7

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in 400 grams of canned tomatoes and 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. Mix well.

  5. 8

    Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir to combine.

  6. 9

    Simmer

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combining and Serving

  1. 10

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the Bolognese sauce. Toss to combine, adding some reserved pasta water if the sauce is too thick.

  2. 11

    Serve

Divide the spaghetti Bolognese into bowls and top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
