Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
- 2
Cook the Spaghetti
Once the water is boiling, add 400 grams of spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, reserve about 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti in a colander.
Making the Sauce
- 4
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 5
Add Crushed Tomatoes
Pour in 800 grams of crushed tomatoes into the skillet. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- 6
Season the Sauce
Add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 0.5 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the sauce. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combining Pasta and Sauce

Mix Pasta with Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce in the skillet. Toss well to combine, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time to reach desired sauce consistency.
