Method
Preparation of Ginger Syrup
- 1
Prepare the Ginger
Peel the fresh ginger and slice it into thin pieces. You can use a knife or a grater for this.
- 2
Make the Syrup
In a saucepan, combine the sliced ginger, granulated sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
- 3
Simmer
Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes. This will allow the ginger flavor to infuse into the syrup.
- 4
Strain the Syrup
After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove the ginger pieces, collecting the liquid in a bowl.
Combining the Drink
- 5
Mix the Ginger Syrup with Lemon Juice
In a large pitcher, combine the strained ginger syrup and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
- 6
Add Carbonated Water
Slowly pour in the carbonated water to the pitcher, mixing gently to combine without losing too much carbonation.
- 7
Taste and Adjust
Taste the ginger ale and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice, if desired.
