Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with a hand mixer until smooth and creamy.

Add Cocoa and Sugar
Gradually sift in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.

Add Milk and Vanilla
Add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing on medium speed until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.

Frost the Cakes
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides as desired.
