Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Lasagna Noodles

Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ground Beef

In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drain excess fat and set aside.

  3. 3

    Make the Red Sauce

In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Besciamella Cream

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens. Stir in nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Lasagna

  1. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of red sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles, half of the ground beef, half of the ricotta cheese, half of the besciamella cream, and one-third of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles on top.

  2. 6

    Top with Sauce and Cheese

Spread remaining red sauce over the top layer of noodles. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and all of the grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake

  1. 7

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

  2. 8

    Cool and Serve

Allow the lasagna to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
