Baking Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust with flour.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a heatproof bowl, combine the bittersweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix the Batter

In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined. Gradually mix in the melted chocolate and butter mixture. Finally, fold in the all-purpose flour until just combined.

  4. 4

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  5. 5

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes. The edges should be firm, but the center should still be soft.

  6. 6

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently lift off to reveal the lava cake. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
