Ahi Tuna

Sweet Chili Soy Sauce

Avocado Cream Sauce

Jasmine Rice

Method

Preparing the Jasmine Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the jasmine rice, water, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Simmer the rice

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.

  3. 3

    Fluff and keep warm

Remove from heat, let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork and keep warm.

Making the Sweet Chili Soy Sauce

  1. 4

    Combine ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, lime juice, and minced garlic.

  2. 5

    Set aside

Set the sweet chili soy sauce aside for serving later.

Preparing the Avocado Cream Sauce

  1. 6

    Blend the sauce

In a blender, combine the ripe avocado, sour cream, lime juice, and salt. Blend until smooth and creamy.

  2. 7

    Adjust seasoning

Taste and adjust salt if necessary, then set aside.

Cooking the Ahi Tuna

  1. 8

    Prepare the tuna

Pat the ahi tuna steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and black pepper.

  2. 9

    Coat with sesame seeds

Spread sesame seeds on a plate and press each tuna steak into the seeds, coating both sides well.

  3. 10

    Heat the oil

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat until hot.

  4. 11

    Sear the tuna

Add the coated tuna steaks to the skillet and sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer if desired.

  5. 12

    Remove from heat

Once seared to your liking, remove the tuna from the skillet and let rest for a minute.

Serving

  1. 13

    Plate the dish

On each plate, serve a portion of jasmine rice, top with a sliced ahi tuna steak, and drizzle with sweet chili soy sauce.

  2. 14

    Add avocado cream

Spoon the avocado cream sauce over the tuna or serve on the side.

  3. 15

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with additional sesame seeds if desired and serve immediately.
