Method

Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Peanut Butter Frosting

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the creamy peanut butter and softened unsalted butter until smooth and creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Powdered Sugar

Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

  3. 9

    Add Vanilla Extract

Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 10

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 11

    Melt the Chocolate

Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.

Assembly and Decoration

  1. 12

    Layer the Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving platter. Spread a generous amount of peanut butter frosting on top, then place the second layer on top.

  2. 13

    Frost the Cake

Spread the remaining peanut butter frosting over the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 14

    Pour Ganache

Drizzle the chocolate ganache over the top of the frosted cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  4. 15

    Decorate

Sprinkle the chopped peanuts and chocolate shavings on top for decoration.
