Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Elbow Macaroni

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once the macaroni is cooked, drain it in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse, as this helps the cheese sauce adhere better.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Make a Roux

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture is golden and bubbly.

  2. 4

    Add Milk

Gradually pour in the milk while continuously whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5 minutes.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Cheddar Cheese

Reduce the heat to low, and add the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine and Serve

  1. 6

    Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce

Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce and gently stir until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.

  2. 7

    Serve

Serve the mac and cheese warm, optionally with extra shredded cheese on top or garnished with parsley.
