Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add the melted butter and milk, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- 2
Knead and Roll
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1-2 minutes. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into squares or triangles.
- 3
Fry the Sopapillas
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the dough pieces until they puff up and are golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 4
Sugar Coating
In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon. While the sopapillas are still warm, roll them in the sugar mixture to coat.
- 5
Serve
Serve the sopapillas warm with strawberry topping, whipped cream, and a drizzle of honey.
