Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Soak the Beans

Place the dried black beans in a large bowl and cover with water. Allow them to soak for at least 8 hours or overnight to soften.

  2. 2

    Rinse and Drain

After soaking, drain the beans and rinse them under cold water to remove any residual starch.

  3. 3

    Cook the Beans

In a large pot, add the soaked black beans and 4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Let the beans simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until they are tender. Stir occasionally and add more water if necessary to keep the beans submerged.

  4. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a separate pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cumin powder, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  5. 5

    Combine and Season

Once the beans are cooked and tender, drain any excess water if necessary. Add the sautéed onion and garlic mixture to the pot with the beans. Season with salt, black pepper, and lime juice. Stir well to combine and let cook together for another 5-10 minutes on low heat.

  6. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from heat and stir in fresh chopped cilantro. Serve warm as a side dish or as part of your favorite recipe.
