Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ragu

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened.

  2. 2

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef and pork to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then add the crushed tomatoes, red wine, beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cover. Let it simmer for at least 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.

  5. 5

    Cook the Ziti

While the sauce is simmering, cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  6. 6

    Combine and Serve

Once the ragu is ready, toss the cooked ziti with the sauce. Serve hot, topped with grated Grana Padano cheese.
