Pasta

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-5 liters of salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making Tomato Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes and tomato paste, mixing well with the sautéed garlic and onion.

  3. 6

    Season Sauce

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the sauce, stirring to combine. Let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 7

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened and flavors have melded, remove from heat and stir in the fresh chopped basil.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 8

    Combine and Serve

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the tomato sauce in the skillet until well coated. Serve immediately, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
