Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F or 43°C) with sugar and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture along with olive oil. Mix until it forms a dough.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for baking the pizza.
- 6
Shape the Dough
After the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into your desired pizza shape (round or rectangular) to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce and then layer the pepperoni slices on top. Finish with a sprinkle of dried oregano and crushed red pepper if desired.
- 8
Bake the Pizza
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- 9
Slice and Serve
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice into wedges, and serve hot.
