Meatballs

Tomato Sauce

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Mix and Form Meatballs

Using your hands, mix all ingredients together until well combined. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. 3

    Brown the Meatballs

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a bit of oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Tomato Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Aromatics

In the same skillet, add olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed canned tomatoes, and add dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  4. 7

    Combine Meatballs with Sauce

Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet with the sauce. Cover and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.

  5. 8

    Serve

Once cooked, stir in fresh basil and serve the meatballs with the sauce over pasta or on their own.
