Sangria Base

Method

Sangria Base

  1. 1

    Prepare the Fruit

Wash the orange and lemon thoroughly. Slice both fruits into thin rounds, then cut each round in half to release juices while keeping the slices visually appealing.

  2. 2

    Dissolve the Sugar

Place the sliced orange and lemon into a large pitcher. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the fruit and gently muddle or stir for 1–2 minutes until the sugar begins to dissolve and the fruit releases its juices.

  3. 3

    Add the Alcohol

Pour the red wine, white wine, dark rum, and triple sec into the pitcher with the fruit and sugar mixture. Stir slowly but thoroughly to combine all components evenly.

  4. 4

    Dilute and Balance

Add the cold water or soda water to the pitcher to slightly lighten and balance the sangria. Stir gently to incorporate without losing carbonation if using soda water.

  5. 5

    Chill and Infuse

Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4–6 hours, to allow the flavors to fully meld and the citrus to infuse the wine.

  6. 6

    Serve

Just before serving, add ice to the pitcher and give a final gentle stir. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed with additional sugar. Serve cold in wine glasses, ensuring each pour includes some fruit.
