Coffee Base

Sweetened Milk Mixture

Method

Coffee Base

  1. 1

    Brew Coffee

In a French press or drip coffee maker, combine 1 cup of coarsely ground dark roast coffee with 2 cups of water. Brew according to your method of choice. For a stronger flavor, allow the coffee to steep for 4-5 minutes before pressing or straining.

  2. 2

Once brewed, let the coffee cool slightly to room temperature. For iced coffee, you may chill it further in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes.

Sweetened Milk Mixture

  1. 3

In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine 1 cup of sweetened condensed milk, 0.5 cup of evaporated milk, and 0.5 tsp of vanilla extract. Stir well until fully incorporated. Set aside.

Assembly and Serving

  1. 4

Fill 2 tall glasses with 1 cup of crushed ice each.

  2. 5

Pour the brewed coffee evenly into both glasses, filling each about 3/4 full.

  3. 6

Top each glass with 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the sweetened milk mixture, allowing it to swirl through the coffee. Stir gently if desired.

  4. 7

Sprinkle a pinch (about 1/8 tsp per glass) of ground cardamom or star anise on top as an optional garnish.

  5. 8

Serve immediately with a straw or stirring spoon.
