For the Mozzarella Sticks
For the Marinara Sauce
Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese
Take the mozzarella cheese sticks and freeze them for at least 30 minutes to prevent them from melting too quickly during frying.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs, and bread crumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Coat each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally roll it in the seasoned bread crumbs. Make sure each stick is fully coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully place the coated mozzarella sticks in the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce
- 6
- 7
Combine Ingredients
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Finish the Sauce
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving. Adjust seasoning to taste.
