Method
Preparation
- 1
- 2
Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.
Frying
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accurate frying.
- 4
Dry the Potatoes
After soaking, drain the potato strips and pat them dry with paper towels. Make sure they are as dry as possible to avoid oil splattering.
- 5
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a batch of potato strips to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
- 6
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
- 7
Repeat
Continue frying the remaining potato strips in batches, ensuring the oil temperature remains consistent. Drain and season each batch.
Serving
- 8
Serve Hot
Serve the fries immediately while they're hot and crispy. You can enjoy them plain or with your favorite dipping sauces.
