Pasta

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-6 quarts of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Linguini

Add the linguini to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Reserve Pasta Water

Before draining the pasta, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water. This will help to adjust the sauce consistency later.

  4. 4

    Drain Pasta

Drain the linguini in a colander and set aside.

Making the Sauce

  1. 5

    Melt Butter

In the same pot used for cooking the pasta, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.

  2. 6

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Once the butter is melted, add the drained linguini back into the pot. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the melted butter.

  3. 7

    Add Parmesan

Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese to the pasta, tossing continuously. If the pasta seems dry, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach the desired consistency.

  4. 8

    Season

Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Toss again to combine.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

Serve the pasta hot in bowls or on plates. For an extra touch, sprinkle some additional Parmesan cheese on top and add a dash of black pepper.
